Public Summary

SARS-CoV-2, the novel virus causing the COVID-19 pandemic, uses proteases within our own body to increase its ability to infect our cells. This project aims to see whether genetic variation of certain protease can explain the severity of COVID-19, and also whether developing drugs against our own proteases would be a feasible strategy to halt the virus.
