Public Summary

We have conducted six focus groups across all levels of residents in surgery. We are analyzing the qualitative data. In general we have three major findings. The pandemic has shed light on the role of competency based education as opposed to establishing standards by numbers of cases and highlighted important areas for education of critical care and communication. The learners have received high quality teaching and have identified strategies to be used into the future. Third, the importance of the relationship between learners and faculty is critical in advancing skill.
